Meriem Bessie Letherman Obituary

Meriem Bessie Letherman, 87, of South Bend, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Monday, June 8th, with her loving family by her side.

Meriem was born in Lydick on March 26, 1939 to Dorman and Mary Waneta (Bromley) Wolff. She graduated from New Carlisle High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, Gary “Coach” Letherman. They married on January 18, 1957 in South Bend , Indiana. They shared 49 years together before his passing in 2006. She held many jobs through her life but the roll she loved most was Mom, Grandma, and neighborhood Grandma. She loved her family with all her soul. She and her husband were active participants in their children and grandchildren’s sporting careers. Before there were little league parks, during games at Lydick park, she set up a concession stand to serve the families. If neighborhood parents couldn’t get their children to practice, Meriem would load up the station wagon to be sure the kids didn’t miss the chance to participate. She would keep the scorebook at the games being played. She was just present in the lives around her. Known for having hockey pucks and candy in her purse to her Spaghetti Sunday’s. Meriem loved getting together for any occasion, one being Barnaby's pizza in South Bend.

Meriem is survived by her loving children, Tami (Bob Trzaskowski) DeLeu of South Bend and Chad Letherman of South Bend, daughter in law Lou Letherman; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer (Damen) Ullery, Angela Letherman, Taylor Letherman, Nicole (Myron Dampier) DeLeu, Tim and Kayla DeLeu, Heather (Kevin) Cooper, Cody (Alexis)Letherman, Chad (Leanne) Letherman Jr., Brandon Letherman, Anna Letherman, Tiffany (Justin) Rupp, Carissa Squadroni, Tessa (Brenton) Graves and Cody (Emily) Squadroni. She was the Great Grandmother of 23 and Great Great Grandmother of 1. Meriem is also survived by her brother John Wolff of Washington state. She was preceded in death by her sons, Joseph, in 2016 and Thomas, in 2019, son in law John (Chuck) DeLeu, her sister Catherine and brother Bud.
