Michael T. Garrage, 59, of South Bend passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of Friday, January 2nd.
Michael was born in South Bend on September 21, 1966, to Michael and Diana (Newton) Garrage. A lifelong area resident, graduating from Penn High School, Class of 1984. Mike was eyeing retirement after serving the community at Werntz Hardware for over forty years. He lost his first wife, Ruth, tragically when she was only 40. He remarried and welcomed the light of his life, Joe into the world. The marriage didn’t last, but his love and devotion to his son never wavered. Mike was a dedicated dad, known for his love to cook for family and friends. A master at the grill, who loved the taste of charcoal. His whole life was spent cheering for Notre Dame, fishing with deep conversations with his sister, hanging out on the porch swing with his dad, son and brother contemplating the solutions to the Worlds problems. Mike was a skilled woodworker, generous with his time and talents, helping both his siblings with home renovations. He was “solid as a rock” being there for anyone in need. Mike may be best known for the B100 Parties he hosted for his family and friends.
Mike is survived by his loving son, Joe Garrage, his parents, Michael Garrage and Diana (Lance) Malstaff all of South Bend. He is also survived by his sister, Dawn (Daniel) Long of Elkhart and his brother, Timothy Garrage of Granger. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Gayle in 2025.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 11th from 1:00 until 4:00pm in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel”, 23421 SR 23, South Bend. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date.
The Hanley and Sons Funeral Home extends our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to all of Michael’s family and friends.
