Michael J. Thomas, 74, of South Bend, passed away on the morning of Monday, October 28th in Healthwin Specialized Care of South Bend.
Michael was born on September 21, 1950, to Rita Joan (Milewski) and Eugene Russell Thomas in South Bend. He was a life-long area resident. After graduating high school, he went on to achieve a bachelor’s degree from IUSB. He worked for AEP for over 25 years before retiring. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed stained glass and Tiffany Lamps, he loved his cats, and took the quote from Charles Dickens, "I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year." Literally.
Michael is survived by his mother, Rita Joan Thomas of South Bend, his sister Sue (Alfred C.) Allsop of North Liberty, his brother John E. (Jo) Thomas of Koontz Lake, IN, nephew Alan C. (Renee) Allsop of North Liberty along with many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his partner of over 25 years, Glen E. Cormican.
As per Michael’s wishes, cremation is to take place with a private graveside at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, to be held at a later date. Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 SR 23, South Bend is assisting the family with arrangements.
