Michael Werner Obituary

Michael A. Werner, 71, of Pierceton, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, due to an extended illness.

Michael was born on July 13, 1952, in South Bend, to Joyce J. (Smith) Werner-Tibbetts and the late Dale E. Werner Sr.

Michael attended Greene School and graduated in 1970 from Jackson High School. He loved watching The 3 Stooges, fishing and caring for his dogs-Starr, Patsy, Jude and Simone his “lake dog”. Mike loved the shepherds so much he fostered 6 of them. One of which was Simone. He moved to Pierceton, Indiana to live on the lake so he could relax and fish. Mike loved so many people and enjoyed talking about his adventures. He was a jokester and such a great storyteller-just like his father Dale Sr.

Michael’s musical career spanned several decades in more than a dozen bands. He played trumpet, guitar & bass guitar. During high school he was in the JHS Marching band, TKO’s Amusement Co., & The Confederation of Sound bands. Then he played for Midnight Sun, Now n’ Then, BJ Roxx, Powerplay, Danny & the Deadbeats, Denny & the Dooops, Bye Bye Johnny, then retired in 1995 from the Phases Band. Through the years he kept in touch with many of his fellow musicians.

Prior to retirement Michael was employed at Bart Willliams Electric, Federal Mogal, Damon Manifolds, Martin’s supermarkets and the Meijer Store in Warsaw.

Michael is survived by his mother, Joyce J. Werner-Tibbetts, of Granger, his sisters, Barbara J. (Glenn) Prater of South Bend, Cynthia J. (Steven) Witmer of Osceola, and Lu K. Werner of Michigan and by his brothers, Dale E. (Patricia) Werner Jr.  and Roger W. Werner both of South Bend.  Michael also leaves behind his loving companion Loralee Reed of Pierceton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his father Dale Werner Sr., brother-in-law Dennis Henry, nephew Mark Werner Jr., fiancé Judy Winnell, and father-in-law Lowell Bottorff.
