Ralph M. "Monty" Layne, Jr.

  Ralph M. “Monty” Layne, Jr., 74 of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.

  Monty was born on December 31, 1947, to the late Ralph M. Layne, Sr., and Reba L. (Kuzuski) Layne in South Bend.

  Monty is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Mike) Foldesi of Ft. Wayne and his son, Ralph M. “Monty” (Michele) Layne, III of Lakeville, five (5) grandchildren: Christopher, Dominic, Brandon Layne, Alison Pierce and Francine Foldesi and two (2) great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph on July 22, 2013, and his mother, Reba on February 18, 2013, and his sisters: Gloria Layne and Heni Ries.

  He was the former owner of Aetna Glass Company for many years, with his parents, a job he loved and all the friends he made through the years. He loved to go hunting, fishing and boating and was avid animal lover. Monty was always helping people. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he cherished all of them. He was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and was a member of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Lake Patrol.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Monty’s name to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnette Drive, South Bend, IN 46614 or to the St. Joseph County Heart Association, 6500 Technology Drive, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.

  Visitation for Monty will be on Wednesday, January 5th from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at 23421 State Road 23 at West Ireland Road, South Bend.

  The funeral service will be on Thursday, January 6th, at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery.
