Robert Balsley Obituary

Robert Balsley, 90, of North Liberty passed away on Monday, May 25,2020 in his home with his loving family by his side.

 Bob was born on July 28, 1929 in North Liberty to the late Homer W. and Nina M. (Sweet) Balsley.  On September 11, 1949 he married Donnabelle (Steele) Balsley. She passed away on June 11, 1998. In November of 2000 he married Barbara Deal. Barbara survives along with his children, Tanya M. (Scott) Johnson of Galesburg, MI and Vaughn R. (Alyssa) of North Liberty, his step-children, Lee Morton and Edward Morton, along with his loving grandchildren: Nathan, Brandon, Joshua, Lydia and Connor his step-grandchildren, Jared (Brandee), Anthony, Zacharey (Kristin), Andrew (Toria), Danielle and several great-grandchildren.. Bob is also survived by his brother, Allen (Ellen) Balsley of FL. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson,his sister, Anna Marie Balsley and step-son, Jay Morton..

 Bob was the owner of Liberty Bell, fixing bicycles and doing small repairs. Before opening his shop, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Bob had a love of music, bicycling, Hesston Railroad Conductor, model buildings and being with his family. He was a member of North Liberty American Legion Post 365, Tin Can Sailors, Inc and the Hesston Steam Museum.

 Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46554 .

 A Private graveside service (FAMILY ONLY)will take place on Friday, May 29th, at 11:00 A.M. at Westlawn Cemetery in North Liberty with Pastor Brian Baughman officiating.

 The HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” handled arrangements and services and extends our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Balsley family.
