Robert Joseph Corthier, Jr., 60, of South Bend, IN died unexpectedly at home among friends. Born November 5, 1962, in South Bend, he was a lifelong resident. Rob was the son of the late Robert J. Corthier, Sr. and his wife, Betsy (Medich) and is survived by a sister, Melissa Glon, and brothers Don and Christiaan, as well as his nephews, Christopher and Justin Glon, and a great niece, Katelin.
Robby (as he was known to family and friends alike) was a homecoming king and natural athlete who excelled at basketball, baseball, football, and tennis, among other sports. After graduating from North Liberty High School in 1981 as a member of its final senior class. Robby mastered many skills, often under his contractor father's tutelage. Rob especially loved trucking and was known for his meticulous, world-class roofing. After hours, Robby was a bon vivant, raconteur, and unabashed hedonist--famous and often infamous for his must-attend parties--and he could often be found hoisting a few alongside other members of the American Legion. Per his wishes, Rob's ashes will be scattered by friends around "the Farm," a large plot of land southwest of South Bend which he called home for much of his life and where, fittingly, he loved to host his massive bonfires.
A visitation for Robby will be on Thursday, February 9th, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at 23421 State Road 23, South Bend, with family and friends speaking at 8:00 P.M. about Robby’s life and good times. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contribution in Robby’s name can be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnette Drive, South Bend, IN 46614 or to the donor’s choice.
