Samuel A. Jacobs

    Samuel A. (Sam) Jacobs, 90 of South Bend passed away on Wednesday, October 5th, at St. Paul’s Assisted Living in South Bend, following an extended illness.

    Sam was born in South Bend on September 1st, 1932, to the late George E. Jacobs and Alice (Allen) Jacobs Anderson.

    Sam proudly served in the United States Army and the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.

     He loved to draw, and his drawings were enjoyed by all. He was a member of the choir at St. Paul’s and his performances were memorable.

    Sam worked for Wheelabrator-Frye and retired form Scottsdale Mall where he was a night security guard.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Lonnie Anderson, and his siblings and in-laws, Claude Jacobs, George (Jackie) Jacobs, Cora Lee (Fred) Milewski, son, Ron Whitt, in law, Ray Corey and his former wife, Josie Jacobs. 

   Sam is survived by his companion, Jane Paynter, sister, Marlene Corey, daughters, Dina (Gary) Church, Sandy Bryant, son, Ken Marshall, granddaughters, Tina (Dave) Brooker and Fawn (Jason) Thiery of Florida along with numerous nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Robin (Larry) Manzer, who looked after him.

  A Celebration of Life for Sam will be on Sunday, October 16th at 3:00 P.M., with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., when the service will begin. Sam will be laid to rest at Southlawn Cemetery.

  The Hanley and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled the arrangement for Sam,,and extends its sympathy and heartfelt prayers to Sam’s family and friends.
