Shirley J. (Nagler) Tanner, 64, of North Liberty, passed into eternal rest on the morning of Saturday, March 9, 2024, surrounded by her family, from an extended illness.

Shirley was born on November 22, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Richard A. Nagler and Janet Fly.  She grew up and raised her family in the Northwestern part of Indiana.  She eventually moved to Willard, Ohio, where recently retired as the Property Manager for Huron Apartments on February 1, 2024.  She had a fun spirit and loved to dance.  She found enjoyment in creating diamond paintings. She also loved taking care of her baby dog, Lucy, whom she loved dearly and was like a child to her.  Shirley’s greatest joy and happiness were when she was making memories with her family and grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Tina M. (Clint) Jolliff of Valparaiso, IN, and Sabrina M. Rice of Viriginia, and by her son, Daniel M. (Shannon) Rice of Gold Canyon, AZ.  She was a loving grandma to, Desiree, Gavin, Skie, Dakota, Xander, Jaxson, Brooklynne, Logan, and Austin, and she had a great-grandchild on the way.  She is also survived by her sisters, Randi (Randy) Edmaiston of North Liberty, and Krissi Nagler of Hobart, by a brother, Richard (Stana) Nagler of Lake Station, IN, and by step-sisters, Donna Levitzke, and Lori Ginter, both of Hobart, IN and a step-brother, Josh (Jessica) Nagler of North Liberty.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a step-brother, Donald Nagler.

Shirley’s family is following her wishes to be cremated with no services.  Memorial contributions, in honor of Shirley, can be made to the Pet Refuge, Inc., 4626 S. Burnett Dr., South Bend, IN 46614, Lakeshore PAWS, 4611 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383, or to donor’s choice.
