Sylvia A. (Frucci) Farkas

Sylvia A. Farkas, 86 years old, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, at the Ernestine M. Raclin House with family by her side.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Martha (Steve) Friedrich, Ellen (Brad) Dunlap, and Thomas (Vicki) Gleitz; step children, Mary M. Wieczorkowski and Frank (Chris) Farkas Jr.; brother Norman (Deanna) Frucci; and sister by choice Sandy (Warren) Sherwood Weaver. She is also the proud grandma of 9 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 6 step great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Francis Gleitz of 22 years (d.1980), husband Frank Farkas Sr. of 29 years (d.2016), and her parents, Bruno and Edith Frucci.

Syvia was born on January 3, 1938, in Niles, Michigan to Bruno and Edith (Edwards) Frucci. She graduated from Niles High School in 1955 with honors and played the cello in the school orchestra. After highschool she went on to study nursing at the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1958. After faithfully working a lifetime as a registered nurse she retired from St. Mary’s Convent where she served the Sisters of the Holy Cross for more than 20 years. Sylvia had a great love for her faith, family, baking, knitting, and raising/showing chihuahuas. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hungary and more recently Christ the King Catholic Church. Sylvia was a proud lifetime member of the Chihuahua Club of America, Michiana Kennel Club, and Land of Lincoln Chihuahua Club.

Visitation will be held at 10am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Services will be held on August 26, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 Indiana State Route 933 South Bend, IN 46637. A private burial for Sylvia to be laid to rest will take place at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King, Ernestine M. Raclin House (Hospice), or a local charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the Ernestine M. Raclin House and its staff for their care and compassion of Sylvia as well as Hanley and Sons Funeral Home for assisting with her arrangements.
