William (Will) James Lechner, a loving son, devoted grandson, loyal nephew, brother and a faithful friend, left his earthly home and entered the eternal loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 10, 2018.

William was born on May 25, 1994, raised in Plymouth, IN, later moved to Walkerton, IN and had his home away from home in Canyon, Texas. While attending Black Hawk College, William was an established member of the horse judging team. He then went on to obtain an Associate Science Degree from Ancilla Domini College in Donaldson, IN.  William’s goal to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Communication lead him to West Texas A&M, where he met Dr. Tanner Robertson (Rob) a well respected professor and advisor, whom William greatly admired.

Those who shared life’s journey with William are beloved mother Lisa Rizek, father ‘Big Man’ Bill Lechner and stepmother Lorelie Lechner, Bubba to sister Lana Lee and brother James Louis, ‘his best friends’ grandparents Guy and Ruth Ann Rizek, Louie and Dorie Lechner, ‘revered idle’ Uncle Jim Rizek, ‘beloved mentors’ cousins John and Alice Rizek, Godson Weston Sayler, ‘loved supporters’ Bonnie and Wade Sayler, and so many other family and friends very dear to him. They all will remember his “I Love You” at the end of every phone call or visit.

William’s love of political and local government inspired him to work on the campaigns of Steven Heim, at the young age of eight, and most recently Tim Harmon.

William’s Saturday adventures with Grandma and Grandpa Rizek led him to appreciate and cherish them and the special memories that developed into a love of meeting new people and places.  He thought of them as not only grandparents but best friends.

William loved trying new things. His spirit of adventure was evident at a young age. There are fond memories of his favorite “climbing tree” and his “no fear” attitude.  Nothing was ever too big of a challenge and he wanted to explore all of his options including; swimming, tennis, football, baseball, wrestling and piano.

William found his true passion in judging and showing horses.  Larry McCollough became a dear friend and mentor, who introduced him to this appreciation of horses.  William and his dear cousin Hannah became brother and sister in heart as they shared the love of many things including horsemanship. William’s accomplishments included Rookie of the Year for Marshall County, IN in 2008, Indiana AQHA Novice of the Year, and many awards in Western Pleasure showing his horses.

Family and friends may share their memories of William on Sunday,September 16th from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the Church of Christ 65225 Hwy 23, North Liberty, IN.  A Christian Service will be conducted by Pastor Tim Davis, Pastor Vicky Blough and Pastor JoAn Schaetzle, on Monday September 17th, 11:00 am, at the same location.  Burial services will be held directly after the service at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton, IN.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in William’s honor can be made to the Autism Resource of Marshall County, PO Box 272, Plymouth, IN 46563, an organization he supported out of love and respect.

“Sometimes the light that burns brightest - burns half as long” (from the Blade Runner, a favorite movie shared by William and his dad).

Arrangements were handled by HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home “Walkerton Chapel.”  Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Lechner family.

Lisa,
I met Will only once, at a graduation party at Kim Nelson's home. I do remember him, because he was so polite and so kind and carried on a great conversation, even though we had just met. He made that much of a good impression on me. Our deepest sympathy.
