Diane L. (Kurzhal) Johns, 71, of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly, at her daughter’s home, on Thursday, January 24, 2019.

Diane was born September 11, 1947, in South Bend, to the late Harry C. and Gladys May (Lowry) Kurzhal.

On January 8, 1966, Diane Kurzhal married Edwin W. Johns, Sr. in South Bend. Edwin survives along with daughters, Robin L. (Ronald) Rupert of Mishawaka, IN. and Jodi M. (Sean) Rowell of South Bend, sons, Edwin W. (Ann) Johns, Jr. and Matthew C. Johns, both of South Bend. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren: Brittney, Justin, Jacob, Jonah, Maggie, Dakoda, Tristin, Adam, Meredith, Connor, Jolie, Landon, Aiden and Arianna, as well as eleven great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Diane is survived by her sisters, Linda (Vern) Bruington and Judy (Don) Smorski, both of South Bend and her brothers, John Kurzhal, Bill (Illa) Kurzhal, both of North Liberty and Thomas (Kathy) Kurzhal of South Bend.

Diane was preceded in death by her parent’s, a sister, Patricia Myszak and a brother, Harry Kurzhal.

Diane was a housewife, and known to everyone as “Nana” or “Pearl”. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren, crocheting and going with Papa to her grandchildren’s sporting events. Nana and Papa enjoyed going on car rides to see the water and enjoy spending time at breakfast together. Although, no one could beat Nanas homemade biscuits and sausage. She would journal everyday about the Lord and how he would help everyone in life. She was a member of Granger Community Church and Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Penguin Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions be made in Diane’s name to The Granger Community Church, 630 East University Drive, Granger, IN. 46530.

Visitation for Diane will take place on Monday, January 28th, 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel”, located at 23421 State Road 23/West Ireland Road, South Bend.

My prayers and thoughts are with you in this most difficult time. It is never easy to say good-bye to family member, but saying good-bye to your mom seems to be especially difficult. The heart of your home is no longer here yet her presence is everywhere. She will always be with you as you and your family are her shinning stars.
May our Lord give you peace knowing she is with Him.
