Gerald “Jerry O” Olejniczak, 75, of South Bend left this world on Wednesday, September 16th at Signature Health Care, South Bend with the knowledge that life was a daily struggle that he faced as they arose.

Jerry O was born on November 3, 1939 in South Bend to the late Stanley and Bernadette (Jankowski) Olejniczak.

Mr. Olejniczak is survived by a sister, Kathy (John) Gastenau of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Jim Ollin of Elkhart, several nieces and nephews and his good friend Michael Otolski of South Bend.

Jerry O was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Evelyn and an Aunt Nettie Schuh.

My time here has brought me joys and sorrows.  I leave hoping I brought friendship and compassion for other’s as our path’s crossed, whether it be at work, The South Bend Parks and Recreation for 34 years or other organizations I’ve been a part of.   I hope you remember me with a smile or a laugh when you hear a song or see someone doing a kind gesture.

Jerry O’s wishes were to be cremated and his family and friend have honored those wishes.  A private family service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.

The family requests that all memorial contributions be to South Bend Parks and Recreations, 321 E. Walter Street, South Bend, IN 46614 or South Bend Animal Shelter, 105 E. Olive Street, South Bend, IN 46619.
